Herbert Smith, Jr., son of Herbert Smith and Johnnie Lee McDaniel, was born on March 28, 1964. He was called to glory on December 10, 2024.
Growing up in Baltimore, Herbert graduated from Southwestern Sr. High School excelling in sports. Later, Herbert attended Stratford University/Baltimore International College where he nurtured his passion for culinary arts.
Herbert never married; however, with Thumberlina Tyler, he fathered one son, Deawon Herbert Smith.
Herb loved sports, all sports but his passions were family, football, and food – when those things came together “he was good”, especially if football included the Baltimore Ravens. Herb loved to cook for his family, always laying out a spread and saying “Y’all better eat!”
Affectionately known as “Big Herb”, he was a kind soul, a great listener, and funny. He didn’t believe in stressing over what couldn’t be controlled. He never complained saying “everything will be alright”.
Herbert leaves to cherish his memory Mother, Johnnie Lee Wright; Son Deawon Herbert Smith; siblings Annette (Mike), Joanne (Terry), Alesia (Myron), Dana, Juanice, (deceased) and Kevin. Nieces and Nephews Falesha, Ricardo, Yvonne, Eric, LaTonya, Dayton, Janice, David and Rashawnda. In-Laws Derrick, Tara, Wayne, and Krysta. He also leaves a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Herbert's life on this dedicated webpage. Your condolences, stories, and pictures will be cherished by the family and will provide comfort during this difficult time.
