In Loving Memory
Dorothy Pearl Hoover
January 30, 1943 - January 31, 2025
Dorothy Pearl Hoover, a cherished mother and friend, was born on January 30, 1943, in Washington, DC. She passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Germantown, Maryland, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever echo in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
Dorothy dedicated her career to education, nurturing young minds until her well-deserved retirement. She spent many years after retirement at Black Rock Center for the Arts, teaching art classes and volunteering. Her passion for learning and growth extended beyond the classroom, as she instilled the same values in her beloved daughters. Dorothy’s nurturing spirit was felt far and wide; she was a beacon of kindness, welcoming all who entered her life with open arms.
Dorothy had a great love for her daughters—Helen Malone, Paula Whichard, and Jamie Hoover-Smith- whose lives she enriched with constant support and affection. Her unwavering encouragement provided a strong foundation for them, shaping the incredible individuals they have become. As a mother, she embodied patience and selflessness, always prioritizing the happiness and well-being of her family, especially her three grandsons, Drake Whichard, Logan Whichard, and Cyrus Haney. As a sister, she showed the same love and patience with her three brothers she adored, Forney Shell, James Shell, and Randall Shell.
Though she is no longer with us, her memory will shine brightly through the lives of her daughters and the countless lives she touched throughout her career. In her passing, Dorothy joins her late husband, James Hoover, along with her parents, Elsie McGhee and Forney Shell.
