DAVID l. SODERBERG
David Lawrence Soderberg, of Gaithersburg MD, was born January 28, 1944, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, at the age of 79. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Arthur and Jean Soderberg. He lived in Fanwood, New Jersey during his high school years, graduating from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in 1962. David earned a B.S. degree in chemistry at Ripon College. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the US Army as a medic in the 9th infantry division. After working at various positions including research assistant at Pomona college, he found a career and worked for many years for the USDA as a chemist focusing on food safety, and later worked in the EPA. He retired from government service in 2012. He was an avid reader and collector of books, especially chemistry books. He had a wide range of interests, both scientific and philosophical and enjoyed learning about different cultures. He was a member of the American Association of Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society, and other professional organizations. He loved to discuss new concepts on a variety of scientific topics. Above all, David was the nicest guy you would want to meet.
David is survived by his sister, Janet Appelquist and his brothers Lee Soderberg and Richard Soderberg, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
