Anna Maria Rosa Lucia Vucci

Eric was born September 13, 1978, to the late Elizabeth Smith and Lloyd Nathaniel James Jr. in Takoma Park, MD. On Sunday December 10, 2023, surrounded by family, Eric transitioned into eternal peace.

Eric grew up in Montgomery County, MD, attending Watkins Mill High School, and later planting roots in Gaithersburg and Germantown. As a child, Eric was always very protective of his family taking on the role of provider at an early age. These traits grew with him into adulthood and fostered the bond between him and his younger sister Katrina.

In 1995, Eric met Sonia Dorsey and from this encounter, laid the foundation for his family. Eric spent his life ensuring his family was taken care of and his actions proved family was his top priority.

In February 2015, Eric kept his word and he and Sonia were married in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

When not providing for his family, Eric enjoyed lounging around watching a good football game with a cold Corona or hanging out with the Warrens (“Auntie” Renee and Kim).

Later in life, Eric’s most meaningful role was that of “Pop-Pop”. Eric enjoyed being a grandfather, spending as much time as possible with all his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two aunts: Teresa Walker Jenkins, and Renee Newby. His grandmother, Jeanette Folk, paternal sister Carol James, cousin Tyreek Lewis, close friend Vernon a.k.a. V and a host of other ancestors whom welcomed him, even if it was too soon.

Eric is survived by his loving wife Sonia James, three children: Nakyra Garrison, Erica James, and Eric James Jr., one bonus daughter: Destiny Wells and one Godson: Bill Bill.

Four grandchildren, Zah’Ariia, Elijah, Rachel, and Je’Mauri. Maternal sisters: Nicole James, Katrina Crawford (Roderick), and Ashley Smith. Paternal siblings: Lloyd, Robert, Orlando, Duane, Torray, Denise, Maxine, Iris, and Esparita. Two brother in-laws: Alan Dorsey Jr. and Alan Dorsey III. One sister in-law Alicia Dorsey and one very special cousin Christine “Chrissy” Walker.

A celebration of life will be held at Beltway Cremation Center on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM.
